In the higher courts, 191 charges of assault, threaten, resist or obstruct an emergency worker on duty were sentenced in the five years to 30 June 2024. The most common sentence for a charge of this offence was imprisonment (81.2% or 155 charges).

In 19 cases sentenced in the higher courts in the five years to 30 June 2024, assault, threaten, resist or obstruct an emergency worker on duty was the principal proven offence (the most serious crime in the case). Among the 19 cases, 17 people were male and 2 people were female. The most common outcome for cases was imprisonment with a community correction order (42.1% or 8 cases).
